SCB10 Dry-Type Power Transformers

Compared with oil-immersed transformers, this type of product has characteristics in terms of safety, fire performance and maintenance requirements, but usually has higher initial cost and relatively large equipment volume at the same rated power.


Core Components and Construction

Magnetic core: Made of high-grade cold-rolled silicon steel sheet laminated, the thickness of a single sheet is usually between 0.23mm and 0.3mm, which can effectively reduce eddy current loss and hysteresis loss. The core is assembled with staggered joints and fastened with non-magnetic materials to ensure structural stability and low operating noise.

Windings: Windings are made of copper or aluminum conductors treated with insulating materials such as fiberglass, Nomex or epoxy. Its structure design includes layered, foil and concentric winding, among which foil winding has better short-circuit tolerance and heat dissipation performance.

Insulation systems: Classified according to the temperature rise limits in IEC 60076-11, including common categories such as Class B (130°C), Class F (155°C), Class H (180°C) and Class C. Epoxy resin casting process is widely used in the manufacture of medium voltage transformers, which can provide good mechanical properties and chemical corrosion resistance.

Cooling system: Natural air cooling (AN) is used as standard for low power transformers. For higher rated transformers, a forced air cooling (AF) system can be used, which, in conjunction with fan operation, can increase output capacity by approximately 30% to 50%. Some transformer designs also integrate radiators or ventilation duct systems to optimize airflow around the windings and core.

Accessories: We offer a wide range of enclosure options, from open frame construction for clean indoor environments to closed enclosures with IP23 or IP54 protection for dusty or outdoor environments. These enclosures ensure adequate ventilation while effectively blocking the ingress of foreign matter and preventing accidental contact with live parts.


Working Principle

Dry-type power transformers work on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When alternating current passes through the primary winding, alternating magnetic flux is generated in the iron core, which passes through the secondary winding, thereby inducing electromotive force in the secondary winding. By adjusting the turns ratio of primary and secondary windings, the voltage can be increased or decreased, and the transmission and conversion of electric energy can be completed. The whole energy transfer process is carried out in a dry environment composed of solid insulating media, without liquid cooling or insulating media.
